The City of Grand Island was founded in 1872 and was known as Le Grande Isle by French fur traders as early as the 1700s. A heavy German immigration to the area led to the city's founding and growth,and the many goals and ideas of our city’s forefathers created the strong foundation on which Grand Island was built. Today, Grand Island offers many things found only in much larger cities.
